Reduced service during Covid-19 pandemic

In the light of government guidance and the current situation generally, PRT is running a reduced service for the time being.

If you know of someone in prison in need of advice and information then click here for details on how they can get in contact with us.

Media inquiries during office hours should be directed to alex.hewson@prisonreformtrust.org.uk. Out of hours media inquiries should be made by phone to 0207 689 7746 or 0207 689 7732.

We have taken this step because we know that the overwhelming priority for ministers and officials at the moment is to manage the current crisis as safely as possible. We remain very active in assisting them in those efforts, and in providing independent, knowledgeable analysis of what more may need to be done. But much of our work needs to be put on hold, not least while we are unable to visit prisons and communicate directly with the people who live in them.

As with many aspects of our national life, when this crisis has passed there will be a need to think radically about its implications, including for a prison system that for decades has been overburdened and neglected. PRT will be at the forefront of that work, but for now our thoughts are for the well-being of all those who live and work in prisons, and the people dearest to them.
