Resetting the approach to women’s imprisonment – A case for change: evidence, barriers and solutions

Despite years of policy commitments, the number of women in prison remains stubbornly static. This report explores why progress has stalled, drawing on the voices of women with lived experience and practitioners. The report points to the overuse of remand, short sentences and recall. It calls for strong leadership, sustainable investment in women’s services and a joined-up whole system approach to end the unnecessary imprisonment of women.
