Potential Unlocked: building a sustainable prison workforce
This report, written by former PRT director and former prison governor Peter Dawson, is based on findings from evidence gathered through focus groups with prisoners held in seven prisons in England and Wales. The report argues that being a good prison officer is a much more sophisticated and skillful job than the prison service currently reflects in its critical human resource processes, and calls for radical reform to the role.
An accompanying literature review of prisoner and staff consensus on what makes a good officer is published as an annex to this report.
