‘It’s About Time’ The need for a national strategy for long-term prisoners

This report is the final output of PRT’s Building Futures programme. Since 2020, Building Futures has worked alongside people serving or who have served long prison sentences, and the loved one of those doing so, to understand the realities of long-term imprisonment and identify opportunities for change.

It’s About Time draws together the voices, experiences and expertise of more than 1,000 participants from across the UK. Combining lived experience, research and policy analysis, it examines how long-term imprisonment shapes hope, identity, health, relationships and life after release. The report outlines a roadmap for a national strategy that better support people serving the longest sentences.
