PRT comment: HMYOI Parc

Commenting on the findings of conditions at HMYOI Parc by HM Inspectorate of Prisons today (23 January) Pia Sinha, chief executive of the Prison Reform Trust, said:

“HMYOI Parc has performed much better than the English YOIs for a long time now and it is good to see this continuing with new leaders. As the Lead Inspector highlights ‘a dedicated cohort of caring staff who were prepared to work with children as individuals, and an active regime which sought to engage and incentivise boys’ are the key to Parc’s success. This result highlights how a more repressive regime, including the routine deployment of PAVA spray, would constitute the wrong direction for children’s prisons to take.”
