PRT comment: HMP Warren Hill
Commenting on the findings of conditions at HMP Warren Hill by HM Inspectorate of Prisons today (3 June) Pia Sinha, chief executive of the Prison Reform Trust, said:
“Progression regimes such as those provided by Warren Hill are vital in helping some of the most ‘stuck’ indeterminate prisoners to progress in their sentences. This positive report suggests that the prison is working hard to provide a safe and supportive environment for prisoners. However, the high recall rate suggests that more could be done to support those who are released to successfully reintegrate back into the community.
“Release on temporary licence is one way in which prisoners can be supported to make a success of their resettlement by enabling them to reestablish contact with family and sort out housing and employment prior to release. Ministers should authorise prisons such as Warren Hill to release prisoners under temporary licence to support them in their important rehabilitative work.”
