PRT comment: HMIP report on resolving prisoner requests

Commenting on the HM Inspectorate of Prisons report Easier said than done: resolving prisoner requests, today (25 March), Ryan Harman, head of advice and information at the Prison Reform Trust, said:

“The findings of this report chime with the vast majority of contact that we have with people in prison. Responding properly to basic requests from prisoners is not only a sign of respect, but is also more time efficient than dealing with the problems and frustrations that result from not doing so. Proving effective IT systems and regimes which promote greater autonomy can improve their ability to resolve issues without putting all the emphasis on staff time.”
