The Parole Toolkit
This booklet has been produced through a collaboration between the HMP Rye Hill Building Futures Network Group and the Prison Reform Trust’s Building Futures programme.
The aim of this toolkit is to help you understand what support is available in prison and what you can do to progress through your sentence. It explains key words and processes you may hear about, including offender management, sentence planning, interventions, categorisation and parole.
It also aims to help you feel more confident asking the right questions, speaking to the right staff, and preparing evidence of your progress. This includes understanding what information is used in decisions about progression, open conditions, ROTL (Release on Temporary Licence) and parole.
This toolkit is a guide only. Everyone’s sentence is different and policies and timeframes can change. If you are unsure about anything in this booklet, speak to your Keyworker, Prison Offender Manager (POM), Offender Management Unit (OMU) or a solicitor.
