PRT comment: HMP Haverigg

Commenting on the findings of conditions at HMP Haverigg by HM Inspectorate of Prisons today (15 July) Pia Sinha, chief executive of the Prison Reform Trust, said:

“This excellent report offers a ray of hope for a prison system where all too often a culture of learned helplessness can prevail. It shows what can be achieved under the stewardship of an experienced governor backed by a strong leadership team. The work of the prison in winning round the local community to the benefits of temporary release for effective rehabilitation and resettlement is particularly impressive.”
