PRT comment: A Review of Health and Social Care in Women’s Prisons
Responding to the publication of the National Review of Health and Social Care in Women’s Prisons today, Pia Sinha, Chief Executive of the Prison Reform Trust said:
“We welcome the publication of the Review of Health and Social Care in Women’s Prisons. The report recognises the disproportionately high levels of health and social care needs of women in prison and makes clear recommendations for change. These are backed by £21m of investment in a three-year delivery plan jointly owned by the NHS and HMPPS.
“What is important now is an ongoing multiagency commitment to the delivery of these recommendations. The report cannot be reduced to yet another bureaucratic process. Its success needs to be measured by the impact it has on improving the health and social care needs of women in custody.”
