PRT briefing on the Victims and Prisoners Bill

We have prepared a briefing to assist MPs for the upcoming debate on the report stage of the Victims and Prisoners Bill in the House of Commons on 4 December.

The briefing focuses on the following:

  • New Clause 1: Re-sentencing those serving sentences of imprisonment for public protection
  • New Clause 26: Imprisonment or detention for public protection: termination of licences
  • New Clause 36: Data collection in relation to children of prisoners
  • Government amendment 104, and other Government amendments to clauses 33 to 42 and 47, to enable the Secretary of State to direct the Parole Board to refer certain prisoner release decisions to the Upper Tribunal or, where sensitive material may be relevant, the High Court.
